US senator Michael Crapo, representing Idaho, was arrested Sunday morning for driving under the influence (DUI) in Alexandria, Virginia.
Police authorities in Alexandria said that after sporting a car running a red light, he was sstopped and identified as the driver and failing many sobriety tests, he was cuffed and booked at an Alexandria jail. He was later released on a $1000 bond.
Sunday evening, he released an apology statement:
I am deeply sorry for the actions that resulted in this circumstance. I made a mistake for which I apologize to my family, my Idaho constituents and any others who have put their trust in me.
I accept total responsibility and will deal with whatever penalty comes my way in this matter. I will also undertake measures to ensure that this circumstance is never repeated.
Crapo is one of the top US senators, representing Idaho since 1998. He is also a member of the ‘Gang of Eight’ in the House, as well as a Mormon who had once been a bishop. Now the Mormonites abhor drinking alcohol…
In the past Crapo claimed that he doesn’t drink … so what happened??
