Bulgarian politician Ahmed Dogan was on stage today (Jan 19) delivering a speech when, all of a sudden, a man jumped out of the audience and pointed a gun to his head.
He pulled the trigger twice, but the gun jammed, giving Dogan the much needed time to get down and the security personnel to close in on the assailant. He was then wrestled down and given the beating of his life by security men and some members of the audience
The would-be assasin has been identified by police as a 25-year-old man from the Black Sea town of Burgas who was also carrying two knives.
Ahmed Dogan is the leader of Bulgaria’s ethnic Turkish party called Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF). He has led the party for more than 25 years.
