This morning in Bali, Indonesia, a plane missed its runway and crashed into a shallow part of the ocean, breaking into two. But all 108 passengers survived.
The Boeing 737 belonging to Lion Air was quickly surrounded by rescue workers, who helped passengers to swim out of the wrecked plane to safety. Official reports put the number of injured to 45, none of them critical.
According to BBC:
“The plane plunged into the sea at high speed,” passenger Ignatius Juan Sinduk, 45, told AFP from his hospital bed in Denpasar, where he was being treated for a chest injury. “Everybody screamed and water suddenly surged into the plane. Passengers panicked and scrambled for life jackets. Some passengers fell, some ran into others, it was chaos. I managed to grab [a lifejacket] and slowly swam out of the plane and to the shore.”
The world narrowly evades a major disaster.
