Golfer Sergio Garcia on Tuesday implied that Tiger Woods is a ‘fried chicken’ in an ill-advised joke remark.
The two have a kind of ‘feud’ going on since this month began during the Players Championship and yesterday Garcia was asked at a European Tour dinner whether he would invite Woods over for dinner at the US Open in June. Guess what Garcia said?
‘We’ll have him ’round every night. We will serve fried chicken.’
Well, Woods did not take the insult calmly, as he went on Twitter to express his displeasure. ‘The Players ended nearly two weeks ago and it’s long past time to move on and talk about golf,’ he said in a tweet Wednesday. ‘I’m confident that there is real regret that the remark was made.’
‘The comment that was made wasn’t silly. It was wrong, hurtful and clearly inappropriate…’ he ended in another tweet.
Garcia later apologized, saying, ‘I apologize for any offense that may have been caused by my comment on stage during the European Tour Players’ Awards dinner. I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner.’
