Jim Carrey has slammed his own movie Kick-Ass 2 for its extreme violence, citing last year’s massacre at Sandy Hook elementary school as the reason why he changed his mind on the movie.
Sharing his feelings on Twitter, the actor – who plays Colonel Stars and Stripes in the flick – wrote, ‘I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence.’
Continuing, ‘my apologies to others involved with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.’
The movie is set to drop in August 16, and this withdrawal of support from the biggest star in the movie may spell doom for the flick, whose first release grossed over $100 million worldwide.
Universal Studios has been contacted for comment.
