Gossip Girl actress Kelly Rutherford has filed for full-blown bankruptcy after spending most of her income on child custody battle with her ex-husband.
According to court documents filed last month, Kelly claimed to have only $23,937 in assets with debts of $2,021,832. She also listed her monthly income as $1,279.33, down from a reported $486,000 during her Gossip Girl days, which wrapped up last year.
Kelly has been fighting her ex-husband Daniel Giersch over the custody of her two kids – a 3-year old daughter and a 5-year old son – but the judge ruled in September last year that the kids will live with their dad in France. Daniel had refused to let the kids live with their mother in the US – despite the fact that it is their place of birth – and he cannot enter the US because of a revoked visa.
Kelly had vowed to fight the judgement … but it seems the court bills has become too overwhelming – an excess of $1.5 million. She has also officially requested her ex to pay up her court expenses, still, it wasn’t enough to prevent her inevitable filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
In addition, Kelly stated in her petition that she owes $350,000 in taxes, and $25,251 in American Express charges. She has also borrowed tens of thousands of dollars from her friends and relatives to help with clearing the debts.
