Demi Lovato on Saturday paid her last respect to her estranged father Patrick Lovato, who died from cancer on June 22.
The singer and X Factor judge wrote on Twitter, ‘Today I put my Daddy to rest…hardest thing I have ever done…But I know great things will come of this.’
She continued, ‘There is an overwhelming sense of peace knowing my dad is no longer battling his demons anymore and that makes me so happy…’
Demi had earlier revealed on Good Morning America on June 27 that her father – who she has never spoken to after her stint in rehab – suffered from mental illness. ‘I’ve dealt with mental illness. My father dealt with mental illness. He wasn’t able to function very well in society,’ she said.
She also admitted that she and her father were not close. ‘My father and I didn’t have the most ideal relationship. But at the end of the day he’s still my dad I grew up with him. He was a wonderful person,’ she said.
Weeks before he died, her father had tried to reach out to Demi, saying in an interview, ‘I love Demi with all my heart. And her sister Dallas too. Demi was my little buddy and I never go one single day without thinking about how much I love her. I wish I could talk to her again. God knows I love her so much, my little buddy Demi.’
