A referee in Marahano, Brazil was on Sunday ‘beheaded and ‘quartered’ by a group of enraged fans for stabbing a player during a local football match.
According to local reports, 20-year old referee Octavio Da Silva issued a red card to 30-year-old Josenir dos Santos Abreu., who refused to leave the pitch. Then they started fighting … and that was when da Silva pulled out a knife and stabbed Abreau.
The victim died on the ambulance on the way to the hospital but as soon as the spectators discovered that he was dead, they flew into rage and immediately stoned the referee to death, tied him up, beheaded him and severed his legs at the knees. Then they mounted his head on a spike and placed it in the middle of the field.
A witness filmed the shocking incident on his mobile phone and police is currently using it to arrest those involved in the gruesome act. A 27-year old man named Luiz Moraes de Souza has been arrested … and he has confessed to assaulting the ref, only that he did not kill him. Police are looking for other suspects.
The regional delegate of Santa Ines, Valter Costa, who is in charge of the case, has released a statement, saying, ‘One crime never justifies another crime. Actions likes this do not collaborate with the legality of state law.’
