A court in Florida has found George Zimmerman NOT GUILTY of murdering black teenager Trayvon Martin last year.
In a verdict returned by a jury of six women, Zimmerman was found not guilty of 2nd-degree murder and manslaughter, and so was acquitted.
17-year-old Trayvon Martin was fatally shot by the neighborhood watch coordinator after a scuffle in Sanford, Florida on February 26, 2012. Zimmerman had claimed that he shot Trayvon in self-defense, although the teenager wasn’t armed during the scuffle.
Many people in the US firmly believe that the shooting was racially motivated but in the wake of the verdict, we don’t think this case is over yet.
