Glee actor Cory Monteith has been found dead in Vancouver, Canada. He was 31.
The actor was found dead in his hotel room at the 21st floor of Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel when hotel workers went to his room to find out why he had not checked out by noon as was required. According to police, Monteith was ‘clearly dead’ several hours before they arrived the scene.
It is unclear what caused his death, but cops suspect no foul play and an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.
Monteith has been open about his struggles with drugs and in March this year, he checked himself into rehab for substance abuse, leaving the facility a month later. He also revealed in a 2011 interview that he started abusing drugs when he was 13 years old. ‘I had a serious problem,’ he had told Parade magazine.
Glee producers at FOX have released a statement on their Twitter account, saying, ‘We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person.
‘He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.’
His fellow Glee actors and other celebrities have expressed their condolences for the fallen star.
