Simon Cowell was forced to answer questions concerning the current adultery scandal hanging around his neck during a X Factor panel at the the Television Critics’ Association on Thursday.
When asked whether the news that he has successfully impregnated his friend Andrew Silverman’s wife Lauren was as big a shock as it was to members of the public, he nervously joked in reply, ‘I haven’t read the newspapers. Am I missing something?’
Then he added, ‘I appreciate the question. Unfortunately I have to keep this, for the moment, private. It’s just one of those things.’
When asked again later on about the scandal, he again said, ‘I would love to [talk], but I have to respect a lot of people’s feelings right now. There a lot of things I will eventually clear up when the time is right, but I really have to be sensitive because there’s a lot of people’s feelings involved here.’
As we previously reported, Andrew Silverman named Simon as a co-defendant in the divorce suit he filed against his cheating wife, accusing both of committing adultery. Experts in the field say the move is very rare, and it ultimately means that Andrew is very angry and is out for blood.
But Andrew, in a statement released on Thursday, said that his 7-year old son is his top priority. ‘My top priority is protecting my 7-year-old son while working to resolve all outstanding issues with my wife,’ he said. ‘Hopefully people can respect the interest of our child during this process.’
Lauren – branded by her own friends as a ‘total gold-digger’ – later released a similar statement, saying, ‘I am committed to sorting things out with Andrew as amicably as possible to ensure the well-being of our son. I would hope for some space and privacy in order to work through this.’
