Oscar Pistorius has been indicted and will go on trial for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day.
The Olympian athlete in a hearing on Monday was indicted by prosecutors, who accused him of ‘unlawfully and intentionally’ killing his girlfriend. Consequently, he has been officially charged with planned and premeditated murder.
Not only that, he was also indicted for allegedly violating South Africa’s firearms control act – which allows a person to have ammunition only for the gun he/she has the license for. In the case of Pistorius, he admitted storing ammunition for a gun his father owned.
Prosecutors released in the indictment a list of over 100 witnesses they could call to testify against the double-amputee runner, while his legal team is yet to come up with any.
As ENTmania! previously reported, Pistorius maintained his killing of Reeva was a simply a tragic accident ‘cos he thought there was an intruder in the house.
The trial begins March 3, 2014 and if found guilty, he will face a mandatory life in prison sentence.
