Dr Phil has come under fire from Twitter users after a controversial tweet about drunk sex showed up in his account on Tuesday.
The talk show host was hoping to get a discussion started on his show Dr Phil, so his Twitter account sent out a cold tweet about drunk sex with a yes/no option without any further explanation – something that did not go down well with many people on the social website.
The controversial tweet read, ‘If a girl is drunk, is it okay to have sex with her? Reply yes or no to @drphil #teensaccused’.
Well the answers the message got was a backlash, so the tweet was deleted. Still, it didn’t stop the outrage, so Dr Phil’s rep came out to defend the tweet. ‘This Tweet was intended to evoke discussion leading into a very serious show topic. It was not intended to be taken lightly, the rep said.
Meanwhile, a petition has appeared on Change.org asking the talk show host to apologize in person for reducing a serious issue like drunk rape to a ‘yes/no’ issue. The petition has already gathered more than 800 signatures.
