R&B star Brandy was the surprise act during a recent South Africa concert … but she ended up performing to an empty stadium with a capacity of about 90,000.
The singer was slated to perform at the annual Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day, which held on Saturday at TNB stadium in Soweto, but after a day-long sporting activity involving football and rugby matches featuring sports legends, the crowd tricked out during the music segment.
By the time Brandy mounted the stage, only 40 people were left in the whole stadium. She then reportedly managed to sing two songs before walking off in embarrassment.
‘Brandy [just] performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on,’ a baffled South African musician Kabomo tweeted. ‘People didn’t know there was a concert after the games. No one knew Brandy was around. Maybe a 40 people audience … She sulked after two songs and walked off.’
And worse still, she was abandoned on TV. The nation’s TV station SABC ended their broadcast of the event before she took the stage.
Neither Brandy nor concert promoters have commented on the embarrassing incident.
