Robert Mugabe has declared: he wants rapists to be castrated as punishment for their crime.
The world’s oldest president, said during the official opening of a new parliament that he wants stiffer punishments for anybody convicted of rape, specifically, ‘that which makes him rape, must go’ – that is, castration.
In his own words, the ‘democratic’ dictator – who ironically has been previously accused of using rape as a political weapon – said, ‘Fathers be aware. We are going to make it very, very tough for you,’ adding, ‘No molestation of youngsters, not molestation of women.’
Mugabe was apparently making reference to a shocking report that over 1,600 children have been raped in the country in the first half of the year, the main culprits being traditional healers who tell their relatives that sleeping with them will cure HIV/AIDS.
‘In the past, there was death for rape but these days those campaigning for human rights say its inhuman, it dehumanizes a person,’ Mugabe continued. ‘But these are people who dehumanize others. If you kill someone they say punishment of that nature is dehumanizing, for a person who killed someone?
‘This is where I disagree. An eye for an eye. Not in that way, I was thinking for rapists we should castrate them and the person remains alive.
‘But that which makes him rape, must go.’
