Miss Universe Olivia Culpo’s reign might be cut short, because she is now in trouble for doing an unauthorized photoshoot at the Taj Mahal … an offence that can land her in jail.
Nick Jonas’ beauty queen girlfriend and her group were on a 10-day visit in India and during a stopover at the famous Taj Mahal structure, they decided to do a commercial footwear photoshoot on the site – something that is banned without proper permission.
According to police, Olivia and her group has been accused of violating India’s Heritage Act. The Archaeological Survey of India has already filed a complaint with authorities.
If Olivia and her group are implicated and found guilty, they face a maximum of 2 years in prison with a $1,600 fine.
The investigation is still ongoing and until it’s completed, no charges will be filed.
The Miss Universe organization has released a statement, insisting that the photoshoot was simply for keeping a diary with fans and not for commercial purposes. ‘As part of these videos, we sometimes incorporate sponsors into these shoots,’ the organization explained in the statement. ‘The filming that took place outside the Taj Mahal was never intended to be used as a commercial nor was it meant in any way to be disrespectful. We sincerely apologize for any unintentional harm our indiscretion and insensitivity may have caused.’
And as for Culpo, she claims she didn’t want to pose with the shoes in the first place, telling The Providence Journal, ‘I mean, I’m an employee of the Miss Universe organization and following directions given to me … Honestly, I did say out loud at one point, “Isn’t this a little inappropriate?”‘
‘I was given directions to pose with the shoes and, honestly, 5-inch heels on a 10-inch bench in 90-degree weather – you know, I didn’t want to do it,’ Culpo continued. ‘It’s upsetting to me that I was a part of that. It’s really upsetting because I loved my visit to India, and I would love nothing more than to go back, even in the near future.’
