Paul Walker of Fast & Furious fame has died. He was 40.
The star died in a fatal car accident in Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles on Saturday. He was a passenger in a red Porshe when the driver – identified as his friend/business partner Roger Rodas – lost control and hit a tree.
According to reports, the car exploded on impact and despite efforts by some of his friends to save him, there was just nothing they could do to prevent the tragedy.
Paul and Rodas died at the scene.
The actor was on his way from a car show organized by his charity organization Reach Out Worldwide to raise funds for the Philippines typhoon victims when the accident – reportedly caused by overspeeding – occurred.
TMZ reports that the bodies of Paul and his friend are currently unidentifiable for autopsy, and the coroner will rely on their dental records before proceeding.
Paul’s rep released an official statement on Saturday which reads:
It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives.
We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences.
Walker is survived by his 15-year old daughter Meadow.
