A careless Georgia man accidentally set his wife on fire at a gas station … and the horrifying moment was captured on surveillance camera.
According to the fire safety report, Austin Dawkins, 37, and his wife Jessica, 30, both of Clarkesville were refueling their truck at a local gas station on October 16 when Austin decided to start playing with the spark wheel of his cigarette lighter, bringing it dangerously close to the open fuel tank of the car.
Consequently, the gas ignited and quickly the flames enveloped Jessica, who was sent running for her dear life.
State fire safety commissioner Ralph Hudgens said Dawkins said that Jessica sustained second-degree burns from head to toe and was flown to a burn unit in Atlanta. She has since been released.
Austin too sustained minor injuries, but that did not prevent him from being charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct and a warrant issued for his arrest. He may face up to a year in prison if convicted.
