Tom Cruise has admitted that his 2012 divorce from Katie Holmes was partly caused by his affiliation with Scientology.
The actor admitted that fact in an angry deposition on September 9 for the $50 million lawsuit he filed against Life & Style magazine for claiming that he ‘abandoned’ Suri Cruise after his split from Katie.
Asked by a lawyer of the magazine whether Scientology played a role in his divorce, Tom eventually replied after several attempts to dodge the question, ‘Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes.’
Asked again whether Katie divorced him in order to ‘protect’ Suri from Scientology, Tom angrily replied, ‘I find that question offensive… There is no need to protect my daughter from my religion.’
He also confirmed that Suri is not a part of Scientology, while denying that he abandoned her. But he also admitted that he didn’t see Suri for more than 100 days because of his busy schedule (he was filming All You Need Is Kill in London at that time).
‘Unfortunately in this situation it was impossible,’ Cruise said, adding that he talked with Suri almost everyday during that period.
