Eleanor Parker – who played the scheming Baroness Elsa Schraeder who competed with Maria (Julie Andrews) for Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer)’s love in Sound Of Music has died. She was 91.
The 3-time Oscar nominee died on Monday from pneumonia complications, this according to a family friend Richard Gale.
‘She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children at a medical facility near her home in Palm Springs,’ Gale said.
Parker was nominated for the Academy Award in 1950, 1951 and 1955 but her career slipped into partial obscurity in the early ’60s until Sound of Music came along in 1965 to blast her to fame.
‘Eleanor Parker was and is one of the most beautiful ladies I have ever known,’ Christopher Plummer said in a statement. ‘Both as a person and as a beauty. I hardly believe the sad news for I was sure she was enchanted and would live forever.’
