Legendary Hollywood actor Peter O’Toole is dead. He was 81.
O’Toole died peacefully in his sleep in a London hospital on Saturday night after a long illness, says his rep, who added that he was surrounded by his friends and family at the time he died.
Peter O’Toole has starred in over 90 movies … and is most famously remembered for his role in Lawrence of Arabia. He also starred in Man of La Mancha, My Favorite Year, Venus and most recently, in Troy, Ratatouille, and The Tudors.
O’Toole won 4 Golden Globes throughout his career, and holds the record for the most Oscar nominations without winning a single one. But in 2003, he was honored with an honorary Oscar for his works.
His daughter Kate released a statement which reads, ‘His family are very appreciative and completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of real love and affection being expressed towards him, and to us, during this unhappy time.’
‘Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts,’ she continues, ‘In due course there will be a memorial filled with song and good cheer, as he would have wished.’
Peter O’Toole retired from acting in 2012.
