Brian Griffin came back from the dead in Sunday night’s episode of Family Guy.
The beloved dog character voiced by show creator Seth MacFarlane was previously killed off on the November 24 episode of the comedy cartoon, a move which caused an internet uproar among fans, who even set up a Change.org petition to bring back the dog.
Family Guy producers did the most to convince everyone that Brian has been taken out for good … even going as far as introducing another dog called Vinny, voiced by The Sopranos star Toni Sirico … but it didn’t help to stop the speculation that the whole thing was a publicity stunt to make way for his return at the special holiday episode.
In this episode, Stewie travels back to the past after telling Santa that he wants his dead friend back … and pushes Brian out of the way of the car that killed him.
After the episode aired, MacFarlane took to Twitter to explain everything.
‘And thus endeth our warm, fuzzy holiday lesson: Never take those you love for granted, for they can be gone in a flash,’ he began, before adding, ‘I mean, you didn’t really think we’d kill off Brian, did you? Jesus, we’d have to be f**king high.’
‘Oh and hey… thanks for caring so much about the canine Griffin. He is overcome with gratitude,’ he finished.
