Katy Perry was caught red-handed lip syncing while performing her hit song Roar at the NRJ Music Awards in Cannes, France on Saturday … and the malfunction was so bad that her performance had to be stopped.
Katy Perry’s lip movement was not matching the backing track lyrics, and the awkward, uncomfortable result forced the show’s host to step on stage and stop the performance.
‘I’m sorry to stop all your energy — I prefer you to be the best,’ he told Perry, before asking her if she wants to start again from the beginning.
She agreed … and the performance restarted, only that this time, there was no backing track, forcing her to sing it live. And it was not all that pretty.
On Tuesday, after the video of the incident went viral, the show’s organizers issued a statement taking the fall for the embarrassing gaffe.
‘Katy Perry sang live during the NRJ Music Awards in Cannes on Saturday night, but unfortunately a bad soundtrack was accidentally launched, taking over the live performance of Katy at the beginning of the delivery tube of the “Roar,”‘ the statement reads. ‘TF1 and NRJ present their apologies to Katy Perry … for this technical problem beyond our control.’
