Jet Li says he’s suffering from an overactive thyroid gland, also known as hyperthyroidism.
The 50-year old Chinese actor made the announcement on Tuesday during the taping of a talent show he’s judging in China.
The kung-fu champion said the medication he is taking does not allow him to do exercises and as a result, he has gained weight.
‘I’m fat, I don’t have the time to lose it. It’s a fact!’ Jet Li joked, revealing that he was diagnosed with the condition in 2010, controlled it with medications until he suffered a relapse recently.
He says he’s tackling his illness like any other human being.
‘I’m just a regular guy, I’m not Wong Fei Hung, I’m not Huo Yuan Jia (kung fu heroes he portrays on film), I’m not a hero. I’m just like you.’
