An Indian teenage boy who was upset that his female classmate ‘unfriended’ him on Facebook threw boiling water in her face after holding her and her mother hostage in their own house.
The unnamed 15-year old victim told police in a statement that the boy – who is a regular visitor to her Muzaffarpur home because her father is his home teacher – showed up on that fateful Wednesday afternoon, claiming that he is looking for his lost ID card.
On entering the house, the suspect then shoved her mother and locked both of them up in a room, before boiling water in a kettle and pouring it on the girl’s face, causing her to sustain serious burns on her right cheek and neck.
‘My father is a teacher and he (the accused) used to come for tuitions to our home. I accepted his (Facebook) friend request a year ago because I found him decent then,’ the girl said in a statement. ‘But of late he had become abusive and so I ‘unfriended’ him last week.’
The suspect has been identified by police as Yudishsthir Yadav, and his whereabouts are unknown.
This is yet another example of how Facebook has caused many teen tragedies in India: in October last year, a teenage Indian girl committed suicide after her parents banned her from using the social network.
