Phil Everly – one half of the legendary Everly Brothers – has passed away. He was 74.
Everly died on Friday in Burbank, CA after a long battle against chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, his wife, Patti, told the Los Angeles Times.
‘We are absolutely heartbroken,’ she told the paper, adding, ‘He fought long and hard.’
Phil and his brother Don amassed more than 24 hits on the Hot 100 charts throughout their illustrious music career. They also influenced the likes of The Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Byrds and many other rock-and-roll bands back in the days.
Among their best known hits are All I Have To Do is Dream, Take A Message To Mary, When Will I be Loved and Cathy’s Clown.
They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.
