Evander Holyfield is currently under fire for saying on Celebrity Big Brother UK that being gay is a ‘choice’ that can be ‘fixed’ like other ‘handicaps’.
The former heavyweight boxing champ, who happens to be a devout Christian, was asked by housemate Luisa Zissman during Saturday’s episode if there were gays in boxing … and when he replied in the affirmative, he also said it was their choice to be gay.
Citing the Bible, Holyfield went on to say that homosexuality ‘ain’t normal’ and likened it to a ‘handicap’ that doctors can fix, just like ‘if you’re born and your leg would turn this way, what do you do, you go to the doctor and get it fixed that way.’
Although Zissman warned him that his views ‘wasn’t an appropriate conversation to have in this house,’ Holyfield refused to back down.
Shortly after, Holyfield got reprimanded by the BB producers, who told him that his views were ‘inappropriate’ and ‘extremely offensive’ because they ‘aren’t the views that are held by a large section of society.’
Holyfield did not apologize for making those comments.
