Shia LaBeouf pulled what he calls a ‘performance art’ on Sunday … attending a press conference for his new movie Nymphomaniac at the Berlin Film Festival wearing dirty clothes and then storming out after muttering a sentence.
The actor, who was making his first public appearance in almost a year, was asked why there was so much sex in the movie and after a long pause, he blurted out, ‘When the seagulls follow the trawler, it’s because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea. Thank you very much.’
Then he got up and left the stage, leaving co-stars Uma Thurman, Christian Slater, Stellan Skarsgard and director Lars von Trier stunned, while the audience laughed and clapped.
Of course, the sentence and walk off was not original … LaBeouf copied it from French soccer player Eric Cantona’s press conference walk off in 1995 (see videos below).
LaBeouf’s weird ‘performance art’ continues.
