A talking parrot’s behavior helped police to solve a mind-boggling murder case recently in India.
According to The Times of India, Hercule the parrot was the silent witness to the gruesome murder of its owner Neelam Sharma and her pet dog on February 20. Since then, police were unable to track down the killer until Vijayy, Neelan’s husband, sent them an unusual tip.
According to Vijayy, he noticed that anytime his nephew Ashutosh visited his home or was mentioned, Hercule the parrot changed his behavior.
‘During discussions too, whenever Ashutosh’s name was mentioned, the parrot would start screeching. This raised my suspicion and I informed the police,’ he told The Times.
Police then picked up Ashutosh, who promptly confessed to the murder. He and an accomplice had entered the house that fateful day to steal cash and valuables, and he murdered his aunt because he feared she would recognize him. The dog was killed because it wouldn’t stop barking.
But he failed to spot the wise parrot, who silently watched him do the deed.
