Lady Gaga has finally responded to Demi Lovato’s criticism of her vomit stunt at SXSW, saying that the former X Factor judge was taking things out of context.
As ENTmania! previously reported, Lovato hit out at Gaga over the disgusting stunt made in the name of ‘art’, saying that it ‘glamorized eating disorders (bulimia).’ When Gaga’s fans tried to defend their idol on the grounds that she too suffered from bulimia, Lovato insisted that it still didn’t give her a pass.
But Gaga in an E! interview shot down the criticism, insisting that the stunt was not about eating disorder at all … but about ‘rage and pain.’
‘I have struggled with an eating disorder for over 10 years, and I take that very seriously,’ she said. ‘I take the struggle of others very seriously.’
‘I am very supportive of Demi’s struggle and her recovery, as well as the recovery of anyone who is suffering from that,’ she continued. ‘But this performance had absolutely nothing to do with any eating disorder, and we never intended for it to be taken that way.’
Gaga’s vomit stunt partner – ‘performance artist’ Millie Brown – had earlier dismissed Demi’s criticism, saying instead that the stunt was all about challenging the concept of beauty.
Also, Gaga had earlier called the vomit stunt ‘art in its purest form.’
