Former Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash has been cleared of the sexual abuse charges filed against him by three men by an appeal court in New York.
As ENTmania! previously reported, Clash, 53, was in 2012 accused by four men of sexually abusing them over a decade ago when they were still minors. All of them filed separate lawsuits against Clash, describing how he allegedly lured them into his bed by giving them money.
But in July 2013, a federal judge dismissed the lawsuits on the grounds of statute of limitations – that is, the accusers waited too long before filing the lawsuits.
Three of the accusers then appealed the judgement, arguing that they didn’t realize the psychological damage the alleged abuse caused till 2012. But the US Court of Appeal didn’t buy that either.
When the news broke, Clash resigned from his job at Sesame street. He maintained his innocence throughout the saga, insisting that all the sexual relationships he’s had over the years were between consenting adults.
