A Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus stunt went horribly wrong on Sunday when the suspending high wire snapped in the middle of the performance, sending performers crashing to the ground with full force.
The incident happened as the acrobats were about to perform ‘The Human Chandelier.’ As soon as the announcer said that the stuntmen were ‘suspended only by the string…’ the latter snapped, sending them crashing about 30 feet.
Immediately, lights were dimmed to shield the horrible spectacle from the kids, as emergency services began lifting the injured to the hospital. But it did not prevent a child from asking, ‘Are they supposed to fall like that?’ as you can hear in the video below.
In all, 20 performers were injured … and 11 of them were transported to the hospital.
