Modern Family star Ariel Winter broke down in tears as the guardianship battle between her elder sister Shanelle Gray and their mother Chrystal Workman ended in a settlement on Monday.
Her reason for breaking down in tears? Her mother played a video that chronicled the childhood memories of the two sisters in court, as part of the settlement terms and also, to prove that she had been a good mother to them.
In 2012, the then 14-year old Winter was removed from her mother’s house after it was claimed that she was being abused. This sparked a two year-long battle between Workman and Gray over who will be the permanent guardian.
Chrystal still stands her ground, reiterating on Monday that ‘I did not abuse my daughter.’
After the video play – which drew tears from Winter, Chrystal, Gray and the rest of the family present in court, the judge signed off on the settlement, and awarded permanent guardianship to Shanelle Gray.
‘The family has moved beyond the conflict,’ Winter and her mom said in a joint statement after the settlement.
