A very depressed goat went on an unusual hunger strike and did not break it until it reunited with its donkey BFF.
According to local reports, Mr G the goat and Mr Jellybean the burro were inseparable until earlier this year when animal welfare officials seized them along with dozens of dogs and another farm animal from the house of an alleged hoarder.
The two animal friends were taken to different animal sanctuaries in Northern California … but as soon as officials at the Animal Place in Grass Valley took in Mr G, they noticed that something was seriously wrong.
According to officials, Mr G refused to eat despite their offering it all the treats goats find irresistible. It didn’t matter what the welfare staff did to make the goat eat, because it ignored them all and just lay in a corner of its stall, refusing to go outside.
This continued for four days, forcing officials to agree that something urgent needed to be done to rectify the issue. Earlier medical tests had indicated that Mr G was absolutely healthy.
So the officials decided to reunite the goat to Jellybean … and it took three days to transport the burro to the place Mr G was staying.
As soon as Jellybean arrived and was being unloaded from the animal truck, the goat heard him and immediately rose to its hooves and ran to the door. As soon as the pair got reunited, Mr G started eating again. Now both of them live in the same pen.
