A New Zealand man who hoped to catch a goat for his stepdaughter’s upcoming birthday ended up in hospital after falling off a cliff in a failed attempt to catch one on Tuesday.
The unidentified 26-year old man told New Zealand Herald that the whole thing began when he spotted wild goats in his farm in Tangoio after breakfast. ‘I looked out the window and saw goats on our land. I thought I’d catch my stepdaughter a goat because it’s her birthday soon,’ he said.
So he proceeded to chase one goat at the side of a hill … but lost control of himself soon after.
‘I forgot there was a drop. I slid straight off,’ he said. ‘I just kept going. I landed on a boulder on my side, which cartwheeled me over and I smashed my face on the next boulder.’
Miraculously, he sustained just a broken fibula and a few broken ribs from the 40-meter long fall. ‘They said I should’ve either been dead or paralyzed,’ he said of the paramedics who arrived one hour later to airlift him to hospital.
When asked whether he will consider going after the goat again for his stepdaughter’s birthday, he replied, ‘No, I’m not after a goat. We’ll just be going to McDonald’s now.’
