Zendaya will not play Aaliyah in a new Lifetime movie about the late singer, it has been confirmed.
The Shake it Up actress’ rep told NY Daily News that she is ‘no longer involved’ in the movie project.
This is coming two weeks after Lifetime announced that 17-year old Zendaya will play Aaliyah in the upcoming film Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, which is based on a biography called Aaliyah: More Than a Woman.
But there had been serious issues with the production. As ENTmania! previously reported, Aaliyah’s family, angered by Lifetime’s failure to contact them about the project, promised to frustrate any plans to use her music in the movie.
Aaliyah died in 2001 in a plane crash. She was 22.
