An Irish woman was on early Sunday morning struck by three subway trains but incredibly came out basically unhurt, with just a fractured shoulder.
22-year old Mary Downey, who lives in New York, was drunk when she fell onto subway tracks in Times Square at around 6 am. One N train soon approached and passed over her.
According to police, Downey – who was conscious throughout the ordeal – continued lying helplessly on the tracks as another train approached and passed over her.
Thankfully, the operator of the third train manged to spot something he thought was trash on the tracks and as his train came closer, the supposed trash turned out to be Downey’s hand waving for help. The train was eventually stopped, but not before it had partially run over her.
Downey was rescued and taken to Bellevue hospital, where she was treated for a shoulder fracture.
Officials said Downey’s survival may be linked to the fact that she managed to roll into the space between the platform and the tracks, but admitted that she was one very lucky person.
‘It just wasn’t her time,’ a source told New York Post.
Video of paramedics taking Downey away from the station can be seen below.
