A male nurse caught in January last year sexually violating the corpse of an 82-year old woman he cared for inside a hospital in California has been sentenced to prison on Thursday.
The elderly woman had passed away of natural causes hours earlier at the Sherman Oaks Hospital, and 62-year old nurse Alejandro Lopez Razo was assigned to prepare the body for the mortuary.
But minutes later, another nurse caught Razo – a married man with two kids – with his pants down, raping the corpse. He was then arrested and charged with sexual contact with human remains. He was convicted on June 26 based on DNA evidence.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, Razo was sentenced to two years in federal prison. Superior Court Judge Thomas Rubinson also ordered him to attend sex offender meetings and weekly psychological counselling during the final 180 days of his incarceration.
Razo was also fired and banned from Sherman Oaks Hospital. His nursing license was also suspended till further notice.
Razo’s nursing career spanned 20 years.
