Alexandra Shipp will now play Aaliyah in the upcoming Lifetime movie of the late singer, it was announced on Friday.
‘I’m excited to exec produce the Aaliyah @lifetimetv movie w/ @DebraMChase. Prod starts later this month and @AlexShipppp will play Aaliyah,’ tweeted talk show host Wendy Williams.
The House of Anubis star replaces her fellow Nickelodeon colleague Zendaya, who dropped out of the production in June due to conflict between Aaliyah’s family and Lifetime.
The movie Aaliyah: Princess of R&B will premiere in the fall.
