An annual zombie march outside Comic-Con on Saturday turned violent after some ‘zombies’ attacked a car transporting a deaf family, forcing the driver to run over a woman as he tried to escape.
According to the San Diego Police Department, some people participating in the ‘Zombie Walk’ (an event where people dress like zombies and march down the street) made towards a car parked at an intersection and suddenly started attacking it, punching the hood and even breaking the windshield
At the time of the attack, a family consisting of a deaf driver with his two small, deaf kids were inside the car … and when his children became scared by the unwarranted attack, he tried to drive away.
But his attempt to drive away infuriated the crowd, so ‘several people from the crowd of zombies and other marchers surrounded and began punching the car.’
‘Several of them climbed onto the car and beat on the car. The car windshield was shattered by the crowd,’ the police department said.
Then the man attempted to drive away the second time … and that was when he hit a 64-year old woman, who was not participating in the event. She sustained ‘serious arm injuries’ and was rushed to the hospital.
No one has been arrested over the incident, and police say they are still investigating.
