Zayn Malik tweeted ‘#FreePalestine’ on Sunday, angering his fans … with some of them sending him death threats.
Israel and the Hamas in Palestine are still engaged in a violent conflict that has claimed hundreds of lives, most of them Palestinian civilians in Gaza. Israel had repeatedly accused the Hamas of incessantly firing rockets into Israeli territory and after one Israeli boy was killed during one of such attacks, Israel launched a devastating offensive, which has so far defied any efforts for a cease-fire.
So when the One Direction singer – who was raised a Muslim – tweeted ‘#FreePalestine,’ he hit the nerves of many of his followers, who slammed him for not knowing the real cause of the conflict. Not a few embittered fans descended into sending him death threats.
‘Let me kill you,’ tweeted one follower. ‘Are you still alive? You should be dead by now and kill yourself,’ another wrote.
‘You and your family need to die,’ another angry fan wrote.
‘ U have fans in #Israel. It broke me that one of my idols wand (sic) me to die,’ wrote another fan.
Malik – unlike Rihanna – has neither taken down the tweet nor responded to the death threats.
