Onlookers and tourists in Sandton City, South Africa were shocked when a woman took off all her clothes before hugging a huge Nelson Mandela statue.
According to local reports, the woman was walking around the Nelson Mandela Square in Johannesburg before stopping in front of the statue. The she proceeded to undress herself in the full glare of those gathered before placing her head on the legs of the statue and caressing it.
The July 28 incident ignited commotion in the park, with reports of nearby restaurant workers getting their orders wrong, and a man getting whacked in the head by his wife for looking at the woman.
Eventually, the woman picked up her clothes, put them on and walked away, ignoring the reaction from the crowd gathered.
Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square regional marketing manager Megan Meas said she was aware of the incident.
‘This was an unauthorised incident conducted by a private citizen in her personal capacity on our property,’ she told Star newspaper.
The woman was not charged with any crime.
