Robin Williams is dead.
The 63-year old comedian-actor was found dead in his home in Tiburon, California on Monday. A coroner suspects that he killed himself via asphyxiation.
His wife Susan Schneider said in a statement, ‘This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken.’
‘Robin Williams passed away this morning,’ his rep said in a statement. ‘He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.’
Williams had been struggling with alcoholism – he went back to rehab last month to maintain his sobriety. It is unclear whether his alcohol issue contributed to his death.
Hours after the news broke, Robin’s 25-year old daughter Zelda sent out this tweet in tribute to her dad:
