Taylor Swift has been blasted by Odd Future rapper Earl Sweatshirt for allegedly perpetuating ‘black stereotypes’ in an ‘offensive’ fashion in her new music video Shake it Up.
The new video shows Swift trying hard to imitate various styles and cultures, including cheerleading, ballet dancing and twerking.
Sweatshirt is supposedly pissed at the way Swift portrayed black women in the video as twerkers while the white girls did the more noble ballet and cheerleading stuff. In the series of tweets, he accused Swift and other ‘white girls’ like her of trying to cover up their ‘prejudice’ by proclaiming their ‘love’ of the black culture.
‘Haven’t watched the taylor swift video and I don’t need to watch it to tell you that it’s inherently offensive and ultimately harmful,’ he tweeted.
He continued, ‘Perpetuating black stereotypes to the same demographic of white girls who hide their prejudice by proclaiming their love of the culture. For instance, those of you who are afraid of black people but love that in 2014 it’s ok for you to be trill or twerk or say n*gga.’
