A nurse who appeared on an upcoming episode of Untold Stories of the ER told the story of how a Florida pageant mom fed her teenage daughter tapeworms in order to make her lose weight for the competition.
After admitting the teen – who was complaining of severe abdominal pain – to the Emergency Room, nurse Maricar Cabral-Osorio initially thought she was pregnant. But when an ultrasound failed to detect any pregnancy and a CT scan showed an extensive growth in her intestines, Maricar then knew that the teen needed a laxative and an anti-worm drug to clear her bowel.
What transpired when the teen went to the toilet after taking the drugs is as horrifying as it is disgusting.
‘It was a toilet bowl full of tapeworms,’ Maricar recalled. ‘It was so gross and she had pooped all these tapeworms. There were a couple that were very long and wiggling around trying to get out of the toilet bowl.’
After the teen finished passing the worms, the question turned to how the teen managed to get infected by so great a number of tapeworms.
‘We were wondering how did she get those tapeworms, and then you saw the mom turn white,’ Maricar said, adding that the mom confessed that she gave her daughter ‘diet pills’ of tapeworm eggs she bought from Mexico and then forced her to take it so that she can lose weight for the beauty pageant.
‘The mom was apologizing to the girl. It’s like “I’m so sorry. You know, I did it just to make you a little skinnier. You needed some help before we went on to the pageant,”‘ Maricar said.
It is not clear whether the teen’s mom was charged for endangering her daughter in that way.
