G.R.L singer and former X Factor USA finalist Simone Battle was found dead in her apartment in Los Angeles on Friday. She was 25.
According to law enforcement sources, Battle was found hanging from a rod in her bedroom … and they believe that she committed suicide. The official cause of her death is unknown at the moment.
Battle rose to fame in 2011 after becoming a finalist in the first edition of the now-cancelled X Factor USA in 2011. She was initially linked to joining Pussycat Dolls in 2011, but ended up joining the all-girl group G.R.L, who released their first album earlier this year.
Her death was confirmed by G.R.L organizer Robin Antin on Saturday:
We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Simone Battle of G.R.L. Simone was an exceptional young talent and human being, and we are all devastated to learn of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this time.
Also on Saturday, the other G.R.L members and X Factor judges Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger expressed shock over the news of Battle’s death. Writing on Instagram, Natasha Slayton said:
I really don’t know how to form thoughts and words rights now. I am inexplicably heartbroken and overcome with sadness over the loss of our best friend and sister, Simone Battle. I am so grateful to have shared some of the best experiences of my life with her, and I will forever be thankful to every ounce of strength, courage and determination she taught me.
She was one of the most talented and brilliantly beautiful people (inside and out) I have ever met. Simone, I will never understand why you left the way you did, but I will forever love you. Thank you for sharing your endless talents and beautiful, glowing heart with us all. I love you so much.
Lauren Benett also posted a similar tribute:
We were supposed to conquer together… we were a team, it wasn’t supposed to be this way. We all worked so hard together, united like family for this dream we all shared. Things will never be the same without her.
The thought of her no longer being here is devastating and shocking for myself and all her loved ones. Please show her love, appreciation and celebrate her life the way she deserves. I love you Simone, thank you for sharing your moment in time with mine.
Cowell simply tweeted, ‘I am so sad to hear about the news Simone Battle has passed away. She was such a fun nice person. It’s such a loss. Rest in peace Simone.’
And as for Scherzinger, ‘Devastated & upset to hear about the passing of @GRLSimone. My prayers go out to her family @robinantinpcd @GRL & my ReignDeer family. Dedicating my performance tonight in South Africa to @GRLSimone & any1 struggling w/a hard time. Please #NeverGiveUp #Madiba #Don’tLoseFaith.’
