Joan Rivers died because her personal doctor performed a risky outpatient procedure on her that is only permitted in a hospital, it has been reported.
According to New York Daily News, a doctor found an abnormal growth in her vocal cords during the planned endoscopy and then her personal doctor decided to perform a biopsy (take a sample of that growth) on the spot.
Then during the biopsy, her vocal cords stopped working and slammed shut, cutting off her air supply. Medical personnel then tried to resuscitate her … but her heart stopped beating.
Well anybody in the medical world knows very well that any biopsy involving the respiratory system usually takes place in an inpatient hospital because the biopsy involves vital organs whose failure can lead to sudden death. Apparently the doctor forgot about that.
A medical investigation into her death is ongoing although no criminal investigation against the endoscopy clinic has been opened.
