Michael Phelps was arrested for driving under the influence in Baltimore on Tuesday morning … and he is ‘deeply sorry’ about it.
The Olympic swimming legend was pulled over by cops at around 1:40 am for driving his car at 84 mph in a 45 mph zone. After failing the field sobriety tests, he was taken to a nearby jail where he was booked for DUI, excessive speeding and crossing double lane lines.
Later in the afternoon, Phelps took to Twitter to apologize.
‘Earlier this morning, I was arrested and charged with DUI, excessive speeding and crossing double lane lines,’ he tweeted. ‘I understand the severity of my actions and take full responsibility. I know these words may not mean much right now but I am deeply sorry to everyone I have let down.’
