An Englishman who killed his friend because the latter poked his girlfriend on Facebook has been jailed for 4+ years.
According to The Mirror, 27-year old Scott Humphrey repeatedly punched his married friend Richard Rovetto after he found out that he poked his girlfriend on Facebook. Before the fight, the two had been in a heated argument over the issue, with Humphrey reportedly yelling, ‘If you’re such a good friend why did you poke my missus?’
During the beating, Rovetto hit his head on the pavement and never recovered. He died hours later in the hospital.
Humphrey fled the scene, but later gave himself up to police.
During the court hearing, Humphrey’s attorney Robert Egbuna said that his client was ‘genuinely remorseful’ and was ‘devastated’ when he learned that Rovetto had died. ‘He has been very candid and admitted this offence from the very start,’ added Egbuna.
During the sentencing, Judge Gregory Dickinson QC said, ‘You didn’t intend to kill him. Part of the tragedy is that it’s left to chance what happens. There will be a fight like this somewhere tonight and the person will get up and go home and the police will never hear about it.’
