A British woman has married herself after seemingly getting fed up of being single.
Photographer Grace Gedler proposed to herself in Parliament Hill, north London, in November last year … and in March tied the knot with herself.
Watched by 50 guests including her friends and sister, she slipped the ‘wedding ring’ on her finger and kissed herself using a mirror.
According to The Guardian, Gedler decided to marry herself after six years of being single … and says she was inspired by the lyric in Bjork’s song Isobel that said, ‘My name’s Isobel, married to myself.’
Now she says she feels ’empowered’, although not in the ‘feminist’ way.
‘My self-married status – meaningless though it may remain in the eyes of the law – has also given me this great sense of clarity,’ she said. ‘I seem to sense much more clearly than before if something is worth pursuing or best left alone.’
However, she adds, ‘And just because I married myself, it doesn’t mean that I’m not open to the idea of sharing a wedding with someone else one day.’
Er, this is art, right?
